Maximizing Industrial Waste
Alina Alamorean is one of my favorite fashion influencers because her work pushes fashion beyond clothing and into the space of wearable art. Based in Paris, Alamorean is a French artist whose background and practice center on transforming “jewelry” into sculptural forms of art rather than treating it as simple decoration. On her official site, she even frames her work with the statement “This is not jewelry,” which immediately shows that what she curates cannot be deemed simply an accessory, but rather something closer to art. Her design language and ethic push so many boundaries within not only art-making but also fashion design. Her conceptual approach is honestly breathtaking.
What draws me to her most is the contrast in her work. She uses rugged, industrial, and sometimes severe-looking materials, but the final pieces still feel delicate. I would even dare to say vulnerable. The shapes in her curations often look like draped fabric or armor, almost like relics from an ancient civilization, making every piece seem as if it has been birthed from a different realm. This leads me to say that her world-building is unlike anything I have ever seen before. She honestly has taken it to a level higher than “couture.” It would almost feel disappointing to refer to her work as simply architectural, dramatic, or ergonomic.
